One of the most hyped songs that i’ve seen talk about since it came out has been “The Other Girl” from Kelsea Ballerini’s newest album, Kelsea. This is for many reasons, i’m unapologetically one of the biggest Kelsea stans. Also because it features one of the biggest artists in pop music at the moment, Halsey.

The two have been friends and both stand for woman empowerment, and one thing Kelsea has always loved the idea of is a female collab. They also used the idea of woman empowerment in the song.

They wrote the song from an old hurt they have both experienced by being cheated on. Both have noted that most songs when it comes to being cheated on point the blame on the other woman and never truly blame the person that actually did the cheating.

For me when I listened to it I heard the story of two women being cheated on by the same guy, and coming together to figure out what’s going on together instead of tearing down the other woman. In an interview with ,The Boot, the pair mentioned this about their message about the song; "No, we're not gonna let misogyny turn us against each other, instead we're empowered."

On top of the message being powerful, the beat behind the song is enough to keep you intrigued and makes you want to sing along. I also think it helps tell the story they were trying to put out. That it’s not about tearing down the “other girl,” so to say.

Out of the entire Kelsea album, this is the song i’ve been found to always go to first. Because sadly, I think this is something everyone goes through in their life, and helps you realize that it's not your fault, or the other girl’s. It makes you feel empowered to move on, and learn for the next relationship.
